How Do I Enable / Configure TOIL?

When employees work overtime hours, companies usually have an option to compensate them for the additional hours worked by adding them to their existing leave quota, so the employee can spend those hours another time.

Admins usually had to be creative when it comes to calculating TOIL even in Vacation Tracker, but not anymore! TOIL is assigned to a specific leave policy, and it allows Users to request additional hours to be added to that leave type based on the time they worked previously.

TOIL is only available for companies on the Complete plan.

Let’s get started:

Go to app.vacationtracker.io/signin to log in to the online dashboard

Select Settings, then Locations

Open a location you want to edit



Click on Leave Policies and go to edit a leave policy



At the bottom of the page, you’ll have an option to enable Time Off In Lieu



When you click Yes, you’ll see 3 new fields you can set:



Shortest TOIL Duration – you have an option to allow Full day, Half day or Hourly TOIL increments

Who Can Request TOIL – You can choose if you want Only Admins and Approvers to add TOIL or if you want to allow All Users to request it themselves

Should TOIL Days Expire – If you select Yes, you’ll have an option to select 1, 3, 6 months or End of calendar year as the expiration rule.



Once you update the leave policy, you’ll be able to add TOIL to the User quotas in the Leave Requests dropdown on the left.
